The automobile suspension is the general name of all the connecting devices between the frame (or the bearing body) and the axle (or wheel). The main function of the suspension is vertical force on the wheel surface effects (Zhi Chengli), longitudinal force (driving force and braking force) and lateral force and the reverse force formed by the torque transmitted to the frame (or monocoque), in order to ensure the normal running of the vehicle.

The suspension is mainly composed of three parts: elastic element, guide device and damping element (shock absorber). The elastic element to make the elastic contact between the frame and the axle, bear and transfer the vertical loads and mitigate the impact caused by the suppression of the uneven pavement; the guiding device is used to transfer the longitudinal force, lateral force and torque, and ensure that the wheels relative to the frame or body of a certain movement law; to speed up the vibration damping shock absorber, vibration limit the car body and wheels. It can be seen that the above three components play a role of buffering, steering and vibration reduction, and the three jointly play the role of joint transmission. In order to prevent the vehicle body in the rough road or turn too large lateral tilt, part of the car is also equipped with an auxiliary elastic element - lateral stabilizer and balance rod.
